Thomas Dixon Centre is the First Platinum WELL Certified Performing Arts Building in the World

Thomas Dixon Centre, home to the Queensland Ballet, has achieved a world-first WELL Certification™ at the Platinum Level, indicating the highest level of sustainable, socially responsible design.

The elusive certification is administered by The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) and signifies the pinnacle of achievement in crafting a built environment that enhances occupant health and fosters peak productivity.

The Thomas Dixon Centre is ADP Consulting’s first Platinum Level WELL Certified project, and the first performing arts building in the world to meet all required standards.

First built as a boot factory in 1908, the site was purchased by the Queensland Government and refurbished in 1991. The redevelopment involved the meticulous transformation of this heritage-listed building to incorporate a suite of contemporary facilities including six dance studios, a dedicated wellness suite and the 351-seat Talbot Theatre.

The achievement of WELL Certification at the Platinum Level represents a significant milestone for sustainable engineering and design nationally, and paves the way for a legacy of healthier, more sustainable future developments.

ADP Consulting is extremely proud to have been engaged by Queensland Ballet to provide specialist sustainability services on the project and to advise on the pathway to achieving the highest level of WELL Certification™.

Congratulations to Queensland Ballet, principal architects from Conrad Gargett Architecture (who have since merged with Architectus) and all project teams who collaborated to realise the inspired vision of Queensland Ballet and establish a new standard for future sustainable developments.
